Try a little Kindness

Today, driving out to work, my dashboard suddenly showed up a red alert signal – EPC – whatever that meant.  Took it to the car showroom/workshop in the pouring rain.  The service advisor told me that I would have to leave the car there for them to diagnose the problem, but in that rain, I was not inclined, having to call for a taxi.  He said it should be safe to drive it and choose to make an appointment for the diagnostic check another day.

Thinking that was my only option, I crossed over to the service counter and the lady there said that the next appointment available would be in a few days time, which was no good.  She seemed concerned that I had been advised I could drive off, and offered to have her service manager take a look when he came downstairs from the office shortly.  I was grateful and offered to wait for him, and when the service advisor saw that I was hanging around and not about to leave, quickly offered to locate a technician to look into the matter right away, which he promptly did.  So I could relax over a cup of tea and do my sudoku whilst they checked it out for that half hour.

What a blessing.  Did she offer because she was kind and service-minded?  Did I look like I deserved her kindness for her to offer?  Certainly she looked the helpful sort and I’m hoping that I had the kind of look that merited kindness too.  For sure, I thanked her profusely more than once, but guess what, I never once asked her name. :(   That would have been a nice finishing touch, to have thanked her by name.

In the end, it turned out there was nothing wrong with my car – just some electronic sensors that did not connect properly – but this little side trip caused me to experience a love characteristic – that of kindness, which was well worth the detour.

“With the kind, Thou dost show Thyself kind”.  Psalm 18:25

“Love is patient, love is kind”.  1 Corinthians 13:4
